What Is ECI?

ECI stands for Early Childhood Intervention. There are local ECI programs all over the state of Texas. No matter what Texas county you live in, there is an ECI program available to your family if your infant or toddler needs help.

ECI programs across the state have a variety of names like Klaras Children’s Center ECI (KCC ECI) , ECI Childteam, Any Baby Can ECI, etc., but all their names have ECI as a part of them, making it easier for people to know it is an ECI program. Each ECI program in Texas serves families from a certain location. Klaras Children’s Center ECI, for instance, serves families who live in McLennan, Bosque, Hill, Falls, Limestone, and Freestone counties.

ECI programs serve families with children that are birth to third birthday, and that are experiencing difficulties with their development and/or behavior. All services are provided in the child’s natural environment, meaning where little children usually spend their time—at home, at Grandmother's house, at daycare, in the park, etc.

ECI providers work through the adults that are important in a child’s life—parents, grandparents, teachers, etc.— to help the adults help the child get better. This consultation method is used because young children learn best when they are given practice to learn what they need to learn spread throughout their normal daily routines.
