The staff of Klaras Children’s Center ECI (KCC ECI) provide all services in the child’s natural environment, meaning the home, childcare setting, or other community settings such as the grocery store, restaurants, and parks. KCC ECI recognizes the significant impact that childcare has on young lives. KCC ECI knows how important it is to partner with the childcare center—the director, the teachers, and other staff--to help ensure that the KCC ECI child is successful alongside his/her peers.

It is important for young children to spend time with other children the same age. Indeed, for the child who is experiencing difficulties with development/ behavior, having this inclusion opportunity can be vital for improvement of skills. KCC ECI knows that some children have special concerns which make it difficult for them to do all that is required of them in a childcare setting. Therefore, KCC ECI is devoted to teaming with childcare centers to make the inclusion experience the best it can be for the KCC ECI child, the childcare staff, and for the classmates.

This means that KCC ECI staff can come to the childcare center to:

• Provide childcare staff with emotional, informational, and other support in regard to a KCC ECI child
• Model techniques to use with a KCC ECI child
• Answer questions and provide handouts relating to a KCC ECI child
• Brainstorm about ways to help a KCC ECI child
• Help the director/teachers/staff prepare to care for children with special needs
• Assist the child care staff in other ways

Research shows that techniques teachers learn to use with special needs children benefit all the children in the classroom.

If you suspect a problem with a child's development and/or behavior, please tell the family about us and give them a KCC ECI brochure. The family may want to make the referral themselves, or prefer that you do it for them. Either way, we welcome the referral.

Klaras Children’s Center ECI has a screening tool called the Quick Check that is specifically designed for Child Care Directors/Providers/staff to administer quickly and easily to identify as early as possible babies and young children who are likely candidates for ECI services.
